SHOULD I CHOOSE A HAMMOCK OR A HAMMOCK SWING CHAIR?

Hammocks provide a resting reclined position, whereas hammock swing chairs offer a little more back support so that you may sit up a bit more. Both are comfortable!

CAN I LEAVE MY HAMMOCK SWING CHAIR OR HAMMOCK OUTSIDE ALL YEAR ROUND?

If there is an extended period of inclement weather or if there is an extended period in which the hammock will not be in use, placing it under shelter will prolong the life of the hammock.

HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN COTTON ROPE, POLYESTER ROPE OR FABRIC FOR MY NEW HAMMOCK SWING CHAIR OR HAMMOCK?

It is a matter of personal preference. Rope hammocks are open weave so they may allow you to feel more of a breeze than fabric hammocks. Fabric hammocks offer a continuous surface, providing a comfortable bed, too. Cotton rope is a more traditional and soft material for hammocks or hammock swing chairs than polyester roping. However, polyester rope is weather resistant and can increase the longevity of your hammock or hammock swing chair if it is to be exposed to the elements over an extended time period.

SHOULD I CHOOSE A 2-POINT, 3-POINT OR  4-POINT HAMMOCK?

It depends on how much motion you like. Two-point hammocks allow you to swing at will or sway with the breeze. Three-point hammocks give you a more stable, mild sway experience. Four-point hammocks provide no swing for those seeking no movement.

I DON'T WANT TO TEAR UP MY TREES TO HANG A HAMMOCK.  WHAT ARE MY ALTERNATIVES?

You can hang your 2-Point Hammock between two trees using our Hammock Hanging Kit, which is composed of straps which are wrapped around the tree trunks, preserving the trees. You can hang your hammock between two concreted  posts. You can hang your hammock between buildings or on porches and decks, as long as there is adequate bracing provided by permanent structures. You may hang your hammock between a combination of trees and structures. We offer a Removable In-Ground Hammock Post for locations in which you have only one tree available. Also, you can hang your hammock on one of our stands, which offer the feature of portability, especially made simple with our optional Wheel Kit.

CAN I HANG A 3-POINT HAMMOCK BETWEEN TWO TREES?

3-Point Hammocks are designed to be attached to a stand. Our specialty 3-Point Hammock Stand is designed to accommodate this hammock with one point of attachment on one end and two points of attachment on the other. This design allows for the mild sway style of the 3-Point Hammock.

DO 4-POINT HAMMOCK LOUNGES REQUIRE A SPECIAL STAND?

All of our 4-Point Hammock Lounges are combination packages which come with a stand. Some of these hammock lounges also come with accessories!

I WANT TO HANG A HAMMOCK SWING CHAIR ON A LARGE, HIGH TREE BRANCH. HOW DO YOU RECOMMEND DOING THAT?

We do not recommend hanging a hammock swing or hammock chair from a high tree branch. The generally recommended height from which to hang a hammock swing chair is 6' to 8'. The concern we have about hanging a hammock swing chair from a high branch is that it makes the hammock swing chair enticing to be used like a tire swing or traditional child's rope swing. Hammock swing chairs are designed for simple lounging and not for any significant movement. Keeping this safety information in mind, we do not recommend hanging a hammock swing chair from a high branch.

HOW DO I HANG A HAMMOCK SWING CHAIR FROM A TREE?

Select a large tree limb from which your hammock swing chair will comfortably hang 6' to 8' . Use rope or chain strong enough to support the weight capacity of the chair. (Our hammock swing chair, Model 1500 comes complete with chain). Thread the rope or chain through a piece of tubing large enough to wrap around the tree branch. The idea here is to prevent chafing of the rope, if you use rope, and to prevent damage to the tree. (Another possibility is to encircle the branch with a section of sliced inner tubing from a tire.) Use load bearing threaded circle fasteners to attach the rope or chain and suspend the swing.

WHAT IS DURACORD?

DuraCord is a trademark man-made or synthetic fiber created to yield the softness of cotton and the durability of polyester. DuraCord is designed for easy care and quick drying. This material is both weather resistant and stain resistant, making DuraCord a nice fabric selection in addition to cotton and polyester. Some Pawleys Island hammocks and hammock accessories are constructed with this fiber.
